Anyone who has been involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer knows how dangerous it can be. And those who have not can certainly imagine the destruction a truck accident can cause, especially for those driving much smaller vehicles.
In order to prevent serious and often fatal truck accidents, the federal government requires truck drivers and trucking companies to follow certain regulations, including limiting the time a driver can be on the road and ensuring that all vehicles get regular maintenance checks. Unfortunately, not all trucking companies adhere to these rules, putting others on the road in danger.
On Monday, a massive motor vehicle accident occurred near Mahan on Interstate 77. The crash involved two tractor-trailers, three cars and a van. Although it is not clear at this time how the crash occurred, we do know that the aluminum rolls that one of the trucks was carrying came loose and spilled across the highway. The major collision left I-77 closed for several hours while crews worked to clean up the wreckage.
As more information about this crash becomes available, those involved will want to pay close attention. Anyone injured in a serious accident like this one should know that a personal injury lawsuit is an option if they were injured. An attorney can help a truck accident victim determine if the trucking company or truck driver failed to follow regulations in a way that contributed to the collision. By doing so, it may be possible to obtain compensation for medical bills and other expenses a victim may incur as a result of a truck accident.
