Fiery truck accident on I-77 injures 1 in Kanawha County

Anyone who drives regularly n Charleston knows that tractor trailers pass through the city every day. Some navigate the highways only, and some have to drive through city streets to make a delivery. All of them, however, have the potential to cause destruction if their drivers aren't careful.

Yesterday afternoon, a serious truck accident shook up Interstate 77 in Kanawha County. For some reason, a truck driver lost control of his vehicle causing it to crash into the retaining wall of the highway. The tractor-trailer hit the wall with such force that its front end broke through the wall, leaving it poking out into oncoming traffic. Making the situation even more dangerous, the truck caught on fire.

Although the truck driver survived the collision, he was thrown from the cab and suffered serious injuries. Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in the collision.

While no one else was injured in this crash, it is certainly easy to see how a tractor-trailer accident like this one could end up causing several additional collisions. When such a situation occurs, victims of a truck accident should be aware of their legal rights.

Understanding what caused a truck accident is the first step toward filing a personal injury lawsuit. Truck drivers and trucking companies are required by federal law to follow certain regulations. An attorney can go over the entire list with you, but a few examples include limits on how long drivers can be on the road at one time as well as how often vehicles must be maintained. If a company or driver was in violation of any of these regulations, you may be able to obtain compensation for injuries sustained in a truck accident.
