A former Walmart store employee has filed a lawsuit against the store, claiming she was wrongfully terminated because of age discrimination. The woman said that she had missed work because of a leave of absence for a medical condition, but was discriminated against and received disciplinary actions because of her past leave of absence.
The woman said that the store told her she was fired because of these disciplinary occurrences, but she contends that these disciplinary actions were taken against her because of her medical absence. This type of discrimination and termination can be illegal.
Speaking with an experienced employment law attorney might be a wise decision for West Virginia residents who believe they have been discriminated against or wrongfully terminated. An attorney can help a person understand their rights and take action to remedy the situation.
If a person is fired or quits their job because of the discrimination, they might have a difficult time finding new employment. An attorney can help a person seek compensation for lost wages that resulted from the discrimination.
Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in their workplace. Sometimes employers might discriminate against a person because of their age, gender, race or other reasons, and this discrimination should not be tolerated. By taking action, an employee not only can help resolve their own situation, but they can hopefully also help prevent another employee from having to go through a similar situation. Understanding one's rights is the first step in fixing a discriminatory situation.
