Speeding and the dangers on West Virginia roadways

There is a certain social stigma associated with drunk driving, but speeding is often considered a mere traffic violation. Despite the way that speeding is perceived, it is actually one of the greatest dangers on West Virginia roadways, as much as drunk driving or texting and driving. Tens of thousands of people die every year in speed-related crashes, and thousands more are injured. If you have been injured in a car accident, it may be linked to a speeding driver.

The amount of accidents caused by speeding actually affect more innocent victims than drunk driving. Many people regularly drive anywhere from 10 to 20 miles over the speed limit, increasing the chance of an accident. Americans are buying faster vehicles, and in a society that glamorizes fast and risky driving, most drivers admit to exceeding the posted limits. This may contribute to the fact that, while drunk driving fatalities have decreased, the overall numbers of fatal motor vehicle accidents have not.

When a driver chooses to speed, he or she is practicing a type of negligent driving. Speeding may be common, but drivers who cause injury or death may be held accountable for their choices behind the wheel. West Virginia victims and families may consider legal action against a speeding driver, regardless of how many miles per hour above the limit he or she was driving at the time of the collision.

If you are dealing with the physical and financial repercussions of a serious auto accident, you do not have to face it alone. If speeding was the main cause or a contributing factor in your accident, it would be wise to schedule a case evaluation with a knowledgeable legal team. It is possible that you could be owed financial compensation, so reach out for help today.
