Do these things to drive safely in a traffic jam

Do you ever find yourself sitting in traffic? If so, you know just how frustrating this can be.

Although nobody wants to face a traffic jam, this can and will happen every now and again. In fact, some people deal with rush hour traffic two times per day.

It's important to take a variety of steps to ensure your safety in a traffic jam. Here are a few things you should always do:

-- Avoid aggressive driving. Even if you're frustrated with the speed at which you're moving, you have to remain calm.

-- Stay in your lane. It may sound like a good idea, but jumping from lane to lane will increase the risk of being involved in an accident.

-- Watch what's going on around you. In heavy traffic, vehicles can start and stop many times in a short period of time. This is why you need to watch the vehicles around you at all times.

-- Don't become distracted. When traffic is slow, it's easy to get bored. While you may be tempted to pick up your smartphone or play with the radio, be sure to resist the urge.

When you follow these tips, you'll find it easier to drive safely in a traffic jam.

Unfortunately, even if you follow the rules of the road and do your best to remain safe, others may not take the same approach. If somebody causes an accident in which you're involved, move your vehicle to the shoulder and then call for help. Also, any injuries should be addressed without delay, as this will improve your long term prognosis.
