One mistake by a trucker can cause a serious accident

It only takes one mistake by a trucker to cause a serious accident that can change the lives of many people.

Although most truck drivers do whatever it takes to remain safe and avoid trouble, there are always those who take risks.

As the driver of a passenger vehicle, it's imperative that you always keep a close watch on other drivers. This includes those who are operating a commercial truck.

Some of the most common mistakes made by truckers include:

  • Drowsy driving. This is when a trucker doesn't get enough sleep, thus operating their vehicle when they are not 100 percent alert.
  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It may be against the law, but it doesn't stop some truckers from doing so.
  • Reckless driving. There are many forms of reckless driving, including speeding and changing lanes without signaling. All of these things can lead to a serious accident.
  • Improper training. The trucking company is often to blame for this. Some companies are in such a hurry to hire a driver that they overlook the importance of providing the proper training.

You never know when a trucker will make a mistake, so it's imperative that you remain vigilant at all times.

If you are ever involved in a truck accident, do your best to move your vehicle to safety. You should then call 911, as this will ensure that the police and an ambulance arrive at the scene.

As you learn more about the cause of the crash, you may come to find that the trucker acted in a negligent manner.
