Why do truck accidents happen in West Virginia?

As you drive down the highway, you can't help but find yourself in close proximity to one truck after the next.

Although it's a way of life to share the road with commercial vehicles, you should never take this lightly. You must realize that you could be part of an accident with a larger vehicle at any point in time.

There are many reasons why truck accidents happen, with these causes among the most common:

  • Inadequate training (driving a truck is not simple)
  • Drowsy driving, often related to too many consecutive hours on the road
  • Drinking and driving
  • Distracted driving, which includes but is not limited to texting and talking on a cellphone
  • Unrealistic schedule that causes the driver to speed
  • Any form of reckless driving, such as failing to yield or signal
  • Disregard for weather or traffic conditions, such as driving too fast in a snow storm

These are some of the most common reasons for truck accidents, but far from the only things that could lead you to trouble.

If you are part of an accident with a large commercial truck, the size difference alone puts you at a disadvantage.

Your primary goal is to receive immediate medical attention, as you need to understand your injuries and the type of treatment you require.

Once you receive treatment and know what the future holds in regards to your health, you can learn more about the accident itself, such as the cause. With this information in hand, it's easier to determine where you fit in and how you can seek compensation from the negligent party.
